Tip of the Iceberg (Update)
  • The last great book I read
Riding Rockets - It's not a great book but I enjoyed the yarns and laughed at boys being boys while accepting accepting women.

  • My most humbling moment
occurred in front of 800 people.

  • Favorite on-screen sex scene
Mikhail Baryshnikov with Leslie Brown in Turning Point

  • The celebrity I resemble the most
Beats me but I would like to match Robin Williams' veracious
mimicries in an interview he did a few years ago with Charlie
Rose. It was so politically risque and spontaneous that
they joked about viewers scrambling to find a blank videotape.

  • The best or worst lie I've ever told
I've been told my EQ is zip. I never ever lie.

  • If I could be anywhere right now
Lucy Vincent Beach on Martha's Vineyard (wedding?),
where my soul is nourished on the west coast of California
or Europe. A few places I'd go again with my mate: skiing in Gstaad in the middle of February, sailing in the Virgin Islands, Simonstown near Cape Town
in January, biking from Woodside to Los Trancos most of
the year, Sorobon Beach Resort (naturist) next to the best
place in the world to teach windsurfing, being a fish in Concord's
White Pond in the middle of the summer.

  • Five items I can't live without
Clean water, fresh air, carbohydrates, protein, fat and sleep. That is six. If you can make due with less, you must be on the Atkins diet and probably headed for cancer or an early heart attack like he had. Stop it!

  • Fill in the blank: _____ is sexy; _____ is sexier.
Un regard effarouché est "sexy"; un esprit
    fin est "sexier".

  • In my bedroom one will find...
Cambridge: three skylights, a two-headed shower big enough for two adults and two toddlers, a real water closet with a Brazilian bidet and a door to the deck. DC: a tenant I think of the Bay Area as being home and Western Europe too. I do not have any bedrooms of my own there, at least not yet.

Why You Should Get to Know Me
I enjoy kids, babies, dogs and cats even though the latter make me sneeze. (Really fat cats make me go achoo, choo choo. I am the world's leading proponent of roadtrains composed mostly of cars.) I sometimes go to Shabbat services and sing. My faith is in the possibility of creating more heaven on Earth.

I grew up in NYC and Switzerland, will probably keep my houses and roots in Cambridge and DC but am looking to spend a lot more time in NY, LA, SF, London and Europe. This profile may give a location other than my residence if I am planning a stay in such places.

I speak French well and Spanish passably, and understand my Austrian speaking cousins about one-half of the time. I believe kids should grow up in more than one culture. I did.

I enjoy cooking but prefer not to kill things that think. This excludes clams, shrimp and fish.

I would teach you how to rollerblade and play tennis or maybe windsurf, ski, sail or soar. Or we could learn together get good at dancing, singing and playing music.

For better and for worse, having some wealth has allowed me to ignore conventional paths to success. I am most interested in promoting technologies that can improve our lives with good potential that is not yet well recognized. While I would not rule out the possibility of having a career that would allow me to send my children to school in Switzerland too, but I am not there, at least not yet. If your career is firing on all six cylinders, you should have more than a great job. Let's talk about making a home and I could just stay there for a few years to make geniuses of our children. If you would prefer to be captain of the home team, that would be fine with me but be ready to work and play hard.

More About What I Am Looking For (Update)
I am looking for a sharp intellect, the habits of taking care of your body not your make-up, gracious manners that arise from generosity rather than act as a cover, honesty and a lack of airs. In your personal life at least, you should not be afraid of being different. Convention is a choice, not a mandate. There are enough normal people already.

25 years from now, I see myself

helping to put an end to the conceit that any one person or
nation can or should lead. If we have not made that possible
by 25 years from now, I will still be dismally disappointed
    but still working on it.

The role religion plays in my life

I love the music, the tradition and the insight religion
sheds on ethnic identities. While I believe that there
are powers above myself, that becomes literal only as it
relates to some elders and group consciousness, especially
of the kind that we have yet to realize using the net.

    My personal motto or creed

    Truth.

Style    Add/edit these topics on your own profile
    My personal style

Practicality and comfort comes first. Sometimes that
means formal clothing but I do believe that suits and superficial
charm are the preferred disguise of some of our most heinous
criminals. Consequently, I no longer wear either.

The celebrity I resemble the most

    Body art

I was born with some discreet art and lost a small part doing
something very stupid while stoned. I flash it as a warning
to teens. Otherwise, people do not much notice.

not have any bedrooms of my own there, at least not yet.

In my refrigerator one will find...

Maybe cherries, cataloup, watermelon and mangos. Sweet
Irish butter, avocados and a loaf of When Pigs Fly. Maybe
clams, flounder or tilapia or salmon with many lemons.
Sweet onions, mushrooms, ginger and garlic. Swiss chard,
kale, broccoli or b sprouts. Maybe arugula or mixed greens,
lemon grass and galangal root if I am planning to impress
you. Half and half and eggs. Maybe milk, possibly soy and
little that has been dead for a long time like jars of stuff
pickled in brine or sugar. There are not likely to be any
animal parts either and the cheese, if any, is probably
    not in the fridge.

    Pets

My first great loss was a Shepard I grew up with. My '22
mother now has a police trained mate she calls Jack. I would
get a Jill for him so we could say Jack and Jill instead of
Jack the Ripper, but Jack lives in England and I have not
settled down enough yet to have a dog. Though I enjoy them,
I can not handle fat hairy cats lying around on my pillows.
They block my sinuses. They really do.

Work & Living Environment    Add/edit these topics on your own profile
The pace of my life is best described as:

I like it relaxed and usually it is when I get up to breathe
and stretch, do not eat too much, and stay cool. In case of
stress and a feverish headache, I take a cool shower which
eliminates headaches in minutes. If you do not know that
yet, try it and teach a doctor. They can be so utterly stupid
sometimes. In case of anxiety interfering with sleep,
I take a Valium. This seems to happen a few times a year and
works a lot better than wine, at least the inexpensive kind.

What I like - or dislike - about what I do for a living

It has been great to have freedom to figure out what badly
needs doing, play and work on myself, but I have often been
    alone doing it.

The type of family I come from

Democratic and Californian on my father's side. Aristocratic,
Tory and otherwise Austrian on mom's. The cousins
took over the castle (and fixed it - yeah!). I have one younger,
bigger brother who lives in Vail and S. Africa.

The amount of fame and fortune I've achieved in my life is...

a hell of a lot less than I expect to achieve.

Interests    Add/edit these topics on your own profile
My favorite way to spend a weekend

Entertaining all and being entertained. Being physical.

If I could take a class on any subject, it would be...

all about you if you are famous; singing & acting &
dancing. Chinese, Japanese & Dutch but, please, in bed only. Math* and economics, truth maintenance machines, neuroscience
and genetics; the phenomenon of bush-dick-kissing'r,
harvard, csis, the manipulation of lower apes.

    * Free math courses (teach me one and I'll love you):

The sports I play, and the sports I watch

Tennis (USTA 3.8), swimming, city blading, water starting,
wedeln. Hikin' 'n bikin' 'n flyin'
    'n divin'.

My most unusual or impressive skill

getting 40 MPG (city) out of a '92 Golf

Riding Rockets - It's not a great book but I enjoyed

In my stereo right now, you'll find...

    Friends in the CD player,
Pandora and BBC on the laptop, VOX on XM, Howard Stern on
Sirius (sometimes, I kid), probably WBUR on FM and
WGBH-2 on FM digital. Sometimes listen to music and news at the same time.

    5 albums I can't live without

"Nobody buys albums anymore" according to
    Jobs. But I like practicing tracks 1 and 9 on GMT's 21st
Century Music and Courtney Dowe's first album (the
friends above). I guess I can admit that I like to sing Don
    McLean's American Pie, Simon & Garfunkel's
Concert in Central Park and such like, as well as a smattering
of French popular music that I have memorized from XM 102.
Love classical also, particularly Mozart and Beethoven's
Moonlight Sonata That is a family thing. He might have been
    my grandfather. Maybe he was.

The best movie I saw this year

None seen in '08 but Das Leben des Anderen in '07.

Movies which spend the most time in my DVD player

    It's always empty.

    Shows I Tivo (or would)?

I used to TiVo Sixty Minutes, Frontline and Charlie Rose
but they are more lively on the web and my TiVO started refusing
to call home after moving back from DC.
